Live at the Troubadour

I realise that I’m a bit behind the times with this.  It was, after all a concert that took place in 2007, but last week I watched the BBC transmission of James Taylor and Carole King live at the Troubadour in LA and I’m urging everyone I know to go out and buy the DVD or download the file.

When you have it, if you never watch it again, watch it three times.  The first time just to marvel at the brilliance of the songwriting, the second to wonder at the incredible musicianship of the artists who have been part of this great music for decades and the third to share the magic of the relationship between Taylor and King that is so vividly represented in their catalogue.  After that, if you choose to, you can just kick back and enjoy it all, time and again, for the absolute joy that results when all these elements come together.

I’ve said it before.  You just can’t beat the real thing.
